Economics of Religion: Analysis of Contributions in the Roman Catholic Church in the Czech Republic

The bachelor thesis Economics of Religion: Analysis of Contributions in the Roman Catholic Church in the Czech Republic focuses on economics of religion in the enviroment of the Czech republic and especially the case of the Roman Catholic Church. The main aim of the thesis is to analyze the situation of the religious market and the role and position of the Roman Catholic Church within it, in regards to participation in religious institutions, voluntary donations etc. By studying the relationship between the state and church and it's determined financing system it is possible to set the model for the degree of financial participation of the church's members (voluntary contributions). By using a regression analysis, a hypothesis is tested on specific empirical data - the amount of voluntary contributions, (un)employment, age, size of the church, and percentage of women in the population.

The Substitution Effects in Religion: How Does The Level of Income Influence Time Allocation of Believers?

This thesis analyses time allocation of believers between religious activities depending on the level of income. The models were estimated from data of the survey ISSP 2008, which are restricted to European Catholics and Protestants. The models explain how the level of income influences church attendance, rate of praying and probability of religious objects ownership. Estimations showed that income has negative impact on these variables. Based on these results, I can accept my first hypothesis, that high income believers tent to reduce their church attendance because of high opportunity costs. Next two hypotheses, which assumed that high income believers substitute these attends for praying and religious objects, were refused. My results also suggest that the impact of higher income is different for Protestants and Catholics.

Economics of happiness and religion: Are trappists in the trap of distress?

This work is questioning whether religiosity could be one of the significant factors that have an impact on subjective well-being within the realm of economics of happiness. The data for the analysis of this correlation comes from the mostactic order of Trappist monks. The reason for choosing this contemplative and reclusive order is the effort to limit subsidiary factors that influence this relationship in the outside world. The outputs of this questionnaire after being compared with the results of similar studies and researches confirmed the positive relationship between the religiosity of Trappist monks and their subjective well-being, purpose in life and selfactualisation.
